Avoidance tasks are is also mouse memory paradigm. These tasks have been widely used in screening drugs for cognitive enhancement.
The stimulus is a mild footshock; the response is avoidance of the location in which the footshock was received. Passive avoidance tasks require the mouse the refrain from entering the chamber in which the aversive stimulus was previously delivered. Active avoidance tasks require the animal to exit from the chamber in which the aversive stimulus is delievered.
