Motot cordination and balance are measured by performance on the rotarod.
The animal must continuously walk forward to keep from falling off the rotating cylinder which is rotarod. Performance in the rotarod task over days of repeated training is quantitated as a measure of motor learning. The animal with deficits in motor coordination and balance will fall off the rotarod.
